About Artworks
What is Artworks?
The aim of the Artworks studio is to provide a place for creativity and artistic discovery, in a relaxed and positive environment.
At Artworks you can learn a new craft or artistic technique, or develop your existing skills, in an easy-going and comfortable atmosphere.
Who runs Artworks?
The Artworks studio was created and is run by me, Nancy Goodens. I have a BA degree and a Diploma in art subjects, and am a fully qualified design teacher. After a career designing and illustrating childrens pop-up books, I began doing workshops after having my 2 children. Since then, besides training to teach I have been involved in providing a wide range of workshops and activities in schools, galleries and local organisations. I have studied a wide and varied range of different crafts, and my own work currently focuses on textiles. Another favourite material of mine is glass.
Who else provides classes at Artworks?
Besides myself there are several other tutors who teach our courses, including a a silversmith, a printmaker, a leather worker, a weaver and several specialists in different forms of textiles. All tutors are or have been involved in professional teaching, and all enjoy creating their own work in their chosen specialism.
What is the studio itself like?
The studio is housed in the Old Dairy, independently situated in the beautifully landscaped grounds of Grade ll listed Lavant House School in West Lavant, near Chichester. This lovely setting provides a delightfully peaceful space in which to be creative, as well as ample parking. The studio itself is light, airy and well equipped.
How many people are in a class or group?
Adult courses and workshops are kept to a maximum of 6 persons. This ensures that everyone receives a generous amount of tutorial assistance, as well as plenty of studio space in which to work. Numbers vary for weekly sessions, but will never exceed an acceptable and workable amount.
Young Artists has a maximum of 8 participants, the optimum number for both a creative and social experience for young people.
What is provided?
All the necessary materials*, tools and equipment are provided for most courses. This provides the opportunity to experience a new craft or artistic skill without having to purchase a large amount of equipment, or the chance to develop your skills further by experimenting with new tools and materials.
(*With the exception of silver and PMC courses, for which a charge is made for the amount of silver used individually; and some textiles courses require individual purchase of own materials, although full guidance will always be given on this.)
Plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits are available, and a light lunch is provided for one and two-day courses.
All materials and equipment are provided for Young Artists, as well as suitable refereshments.
