Experimental Textiles
COURSE OUTLINE: Explore the possibilities of transfer painting on synthetic fabric, acrylic painting onto fabric, layering, stitching and melting to achieve exciting textural effects.
The course will include short demonstrations to the group by the tutor when required, with the majority of the course taking the form of practical progress on your own personal project or samples, with individual guidance from the tutor when required
COURSE PROGRAMME:
Session 1: demonstration of different techniques and preparation of fabrics and papers; Practical time for students
Session 2: demonstration of how techniques can be used and how to use heat gun and soldering iron; Practical time for students
Session 3: practical time for students with advice and guidance available
MATERIALS PROVIDED: dyes for painting fabric, lutrador fabric, polyester fabric, bondaweb, acrylic paint, machine embroidery thread
EXTRA MATERIALS AVAILABLE AT COST: polyester chiffon, other polyester fabrics
ADDITIONAL NOTES: Please bring your own sewing machine if you have one, which must have a drop feed and embroidery foot; also any machine embroidery threads. This is “experimental” so any other bits and pieces you may have please bring along eg ribbons, fabric snippets, etc
