COURSE OUTLINE:

An introduction to the craft of leather working including cutting and preparation of different leathers, hand sewing, embossing and lacing techniques.  Create some unique pieces including purses, key fobs and bookmarks. 

The course will include short demonstrations to the group by the tutor when required, with the majority of the course taking the form of practical progress on your own personal project, and individual guidance from the tutor when required

COURSE PROGRAMME:

Session 1:  Learn about the different properties and use of leathers and leather working tools.  Choose an existing design or create your own and cut and prepare your leather pieces.  Learn preparation and dyeing techniques.

 

Session 2: 

Learn the hand sewing techniques, lacing and embrossing techniques associated with leather goods.

 

Session 3: 

Finish off your leather goods and discuss how to apply and develop the skills for future leather work projects.

 

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT INCLUDED: Leather, Tools, Dyes, and Thread.

 

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

Old clothes and/or apron are recommended.  Please wear closed-in shoes (no sandals).
