I have a background in Design including a Diploma and a BA (Hons) degree, and a career working in, and then teaching, Art and Design. Most of my work is textiles based, in response to an image or drawing that can be landscape, figurative, natural form or abstract.
My current textile work focuses on the use of a needle felting machine, layering pieces of fabrics and fibres in an almost painterly way to create images that are mostly landscapes, also some natural forms.
Other works involve utilising texture and stitch in a natural state in the first instance, then hand-dyeing to achieve subtle varieties of shades and tones, the end result often having an element of surprise that appeals to me. I also enjoy exploring qualities of line created in both drawing and machine stitching. My finished pieces can be in the form of 2-dimensional artwork, functional items or garments of clothing.
Examples of my work (and that of other Artworks tutors) are on display and available to purchase at the studio permanently, and I'm now exhibiting my work more widely.
