Painting on Glass for Fusing

Glass fusing can be enhanced by utilising a variety of painting and decorative techniques, prior to firing in a kiln. This workshop will introduce you to a range of different decorative techniques using glass enamel paints, from simple painting marks to scraffito and using stencils, and also the inclusion of coloured glass frits and confetti. Glass work can be single layers, or stacked up to 3 layers to produce 3-D effects when fired.

The course will include short demonstrations to the group by the tutor when required, with the majority of the course taking the form of practical progress on your own personal project, and individual guidance from the tutor when required

Session 1:  Introduction to powdered glass enamel paints and binders, and how to mix them; demonstration of painting with glass enamels, and the use of scraffito and stencils; inclusion of frits and confetti

Session 2: Planning (and drawing if required)of design ideas; start work on glass pieces ready for firing, using techniques demonstrated
Session 3: Continuation of work on glass pieces ready for firing, to your own designs and ideas, with guidance from the tutor

Range of coloured glass enamel paints and binder; coloured glass frits and confetti; clear glass sheet; all materials and equipment required

Please note work will need to be left at the studio for firing in a kiln after the workshop, which can take up to 3 or 4 weeks, and will need collecting after firing. Posting work can be arranged, cost of postage will be required
