Watercolour Painting





This course will focus on using watercolour paints at a basic level, as well as broadening the knowledge of more advanced students. Students will be encouraged to look at other artists’ work, to understand both traditional and contemporary application of watercolours.

Students may choose a theme to work with, and can develop skills from direct observation as well as working from drawings and photographs.

The course will include short demonstrations to the group by the tutor when required, with the majority of the course taking the form of practical progress on your own personal project, and individual guidance from the tutor when required



Session 1:  Introduction to watercolour painting, including some examples;  Drawing from observation; Using colour; small studies in preparation for a ‘final piece’


Session 2: Using students’ individual themes, photographs and sketches, begin work on a final piece (Students may also wish to develop their work between sessions)


Session 3: Students continue their work and it is hoped will finish a watercolour painting by the end of the session


MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT INCLUDED: Pencils, watercolour paints, additional paints and materials, paper, reference material


ADDITIONAL NOTES: Students wishing to work from photographs or drawings should bring these with them, and optionally your own watercolour paints.  Please wear old clothes or bring an overall or apron.
